Do I register the script, the finished work, or are there more elements?
The usual approach is to register the script before shooting and, later on, the finished audiovisual work. But those aren't the only important elements. We also recommend registering other key materials to protect the development and commercialisation of your project, such as the treatment, the storyboard and the sales documents (dossier, pitch deck or format bible).
How is a team's co-authorship reflected?
By inviting the co-authors to the registration, so that each person's contribution is recorded (script, direction, music, animation...).
When is it best to register?
Before disclosing the work: presenting it to festivals, platforms or distributors. That's when proof of authorship with a date is most valuable.
Does it protect the concept or the format?
No. Copyright does not protect ideas, but their concrete development. To protect a format, you should register it in as much detail as possible: exhaustive rundowns (with mechanics, timings, sections, lighting, music), the project bible or the recording of a pilot. In addition, backing this up with the registration of the associated trademarks and trade names will considerably strengthen your protection.

Yes. The evidence is recognised in the countries of the Berne Convention and by WIPO.
