About the work
That morning I opened my eyes and I found,
That look in his stare, where the sorrow was drowned in tears.
And he kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
Yeah, he kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
The days rolled on by, and the boy slowly grew,
He laughed and he lived, but he still missed you.
And he kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
And I didn’t know what to say anymore. I just didn’t know...
How could I tell him: "Mama got tired,
And she’s out there somewhere, lookin’ for freedom's fire."
And he kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
Yeah, he kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
And now you come back, tellin’ me you’re gonna leave,
That you’re takin’ him with you, that it’s time to retrieve
His laughter and play, teach him how to fly.
But I’m tellin’ you now, I watched that boy grow.
I’m tellin’ you now, I’m the one who let him know
That it’s easy to fly, but it’s harder to come back home.
And he kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
He kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
If there’s forgiveness, go ask it of him.
He suffered much more. I learned to give in,
To the fact that you flew lookin’ for liberty.
But he kept askin’ me: "Daddy, where’s Mama?"
Always askin’ me: "Daddy... where’s Mama?"
Where’s Mama?
Where’s Mama?...
