About the work
Born Under Lying Stars – Destiny wanted us on our knees. We remained standing. Laughing.
Paris, August 1939. As Europe teeters on the brink of war, an ancient prophetic manuscript – the Book of Five Hundred – is stolen from the National Library. Agnese Dernie, a guardian trained by the secret organization Le Contrôle, faces a terrible dilemma: protect the book as duty demands, or follow her heart toward Argan Velliere, the idealistic librarian who stole the manuscript.
Together with Michel da Vinci, a brilliant and chaotic inventor, the three fugitives plunge into the underground passages of Paris, pursued by Philippe Dernie, Agnese's obsessive brother, and guided by the enigmatic Victor, a lethal mentor with unspeakable secrets. The manuscript reveals alternate futures: stopping the war would condemn humanity to fifty years of dark tyranny; allowing it preserves the possibility of freedom and hope, at the cost of millions of lives.
Through breathless chases, painful revelations, and impossible choices, the characters must confront the weight of destiny. Agnese, torn between love and mission, discovers that true sacrifice is not about avoiding pain, but accepting it to protect what makes the future worth living. In a devastating finale, the "Nova Luce" – a young woman destined to become a star – makes the choice that will change the course of history.
A young adult novel set in 1939, blending action, philosophy, and dark humor, exploring themes of free will, love, duty, and the courage to stand when destiny wants to bring us to our knees.
