About the work
LYRICS:
I whispered dreams into the wind, echoes from our past,
A hunger for the life we knew, too fragile now to last.
The coffin carved in mahogany, I stood in shadowed black,
My gaze was lost, my soul adrift — no way of turning back.
Her kiss still burned upon my lips, a ghost I couldn't chase,
Her laughter rang like waterfalls, her smile lit every space.
I touched the wood — it felt so cold, yet somehow part of me,
She was mine — like breath, like tide, like waves upon the sea.
But now I couldn’t breathe her in, no air was left to find,
No rhythm in my hollow chest, no peace within my mind.
Did I love her? Like a god — she was fire, dawn, and flame,
But love had shattered into ash, and nothing felt the same.
I wished to see her one last time, but the lid was locked so tight,
To kiss her once, and break the spell, return her to the light.
To feel her breath against my skin, to bring her back to me,
But tears don’t fall, and pain won’t come — I stood there silently.
Then came the car, bone-colored pale, the mourners close behind,
She led the line with reddened eyes, with roses in her mind.
She wore the black, she walked for me — but something wasn't right…
Why did she cry, and I still stand... in this fading light?
The truth fell soft — like winter snow, like breath I didn’t know...
That box of wood… was mine alone.
I was the one… who had let go.
I thought I came to say goodbye — to hold her one last time,
But it was me who’d crossed the line, who heard the final chime.
She cried for me — her trembling hands placed flowers where I lay…
I was the breath that slipped away…
I was the one they mourned today.
Mahogany wood, my silent bed...
I never knew... that I was dead.
