1846. The United States declares war on Mexico after a long period of tension along the Texas border. American troops advance into Mexican territory with the support of the Texas Rangers, a paramilitary force composed of volunteers known for their brutality against Native Americans and Mexicans. Among the U.S. troops is a group of about 200 Irishmen, most of them newly arrived in the country. These are people who fled English oppression and the famine beginning to devastate Ireland. They seek a land of opportunity but instead find a nation that forces them to fight in this war in exchange for citizenship. Inspired by the true story of the St. Patrick Battalion and based on the bestselling novel St. Patrick’s Battalion by Pino Cacucci.
