About the work
Race walking is an athletic activity based on the action of walking. World Athletics Technical Rule 54.2 states: “Race Walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground, so that no visible (to the human eye) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg must be straightened (i.e. not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until the vertical upright position.” In order to control the compliance with this rule, judges scrutinize the athletes during competitions. It has been shown that it is not possible for judges to observe loss of contact under 40-ms. This Olympic discipline has experienced controversy due to images, using high speed cameras or high-speed video, showing that athletes have both feet in the air.
