About the work

CARLOS is a young aspiring writer in a relationship with LUKE an Erasmus student. They've developed a very close relationship founded in love. When the time for Luke to go back to his country comes closer, they try to figure out how to continue their relationship once they’re away from each other. Carlos pursues the opportunity of getting a writting internship in order to make money to visit Luke. However, Carlos finds himself having a writer's block.

The night before the interview, Carlos decided to start the work he’s presenting tomorrow from scratch, not being contempt with that he originally had. Luke then meets Carlos after the interview and shares how humiliated he felt at it. Luke tries to comfort him but in a sudden burst of anger Carlos makes hurtful remarks about Luke being unable to understand what he is going through. Luke wishes to end the discussion and Carlos apologizes and shares his insecurity about his talent with him, to which Luke reassures anyone would be lucky to have him by his side, just like he is. Later that night, in bed, Carlos and Luke share an intimate moment under the sheets, where, after finding an eyelash on Carlos’ face, Luke asks him to make a wish. Carlos then makes a wish and playfully teases Luke about telling him what he wished. Luke is at the beginning resistant following the logic that if you tell your wish, it won’t come true. However, Carlos teasing works and he reveals that he wish was that when they break up, and time passes, they cheat on their future boyfriends with each other. Luke is hurt about the fact that he’s already thinking about to break up and leaves to finish packing his suitcase. Carlos wonders in bed how to stop damaging his relationship when he looks at the night table where he finds a frog bracelet.

Six months previously, Carlos gives this bracelet to Luke at a party, who promises he’s never taking it off. They spend the night dancing and drinking. At one point, Carlos sits with a friend who asks how long have they been a couple. Carlos explains that they’re not really together, they’ve agreed to be fuck-buddies, which he assures is fine with. He comments on how he’s never been as happy with anyone, then when asked what will he do when Luke leaves, Carlos is shocked and realises he hadn’t thought of that. Luke then looks for Carlos in the party only to find him making out with another guy. Luke leaves the party upset and Carlos follows him on the street. Luke states that he doesn’t want to be with anyone else. Carlos explains his fear of losing him and his desire to avoid heartbreak when Luke confesses he loves him. Carlos is in shock for a moment, as this is the first time any of them has said they loved each other. Luke tries to take it back but when Carlos r confesses he loves him as well. They agree that night of being boyfriends, they are overjoyed.

Back to the present, Carlos finds himself saying his goodbyes with Luke, the day for him to go has come. They remember their promise to call everyday and after a warm last embrace they part ways. In a montage, Carlos narrates how the couple is true to the promise at first: they have multiple calls and even get the great news that Carlos got the internship, however keeping their promise gets more difficult and they slowly drift away until they decide to break up because of the distance. A couple of years forward, Carlos finds himself narrating this story at a book store where he is presenting his first published book. Many people ask for him to sign their books, and when a man comes up to him and Carlos asks him his name to sign it, the man responds “Luke”. They find themselves together once again.
The End.
