About the work
Looking at Jonah's life, we discover something as puzzling as it is true: We could obey without changing. We could tell others about the love of God without feeling love for others. We could do spiritual things without being a spiritual person. We could change our behavior on the outside without our deepest desires changing.
Time and again, the Bible shows us that “God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). From a biblical perspective, to change isn't just to obey. To change is for our deepest desires to undergo a transformation. It is for our hopes, dreams, ambitions, imagination, and passions to change. It is for the things our heart enjoys to change and, as an outcome of this change, for our lifestyle to change.
How do we change? That is the challenge presented in this book. It is to guide you towards a fresh encounter with Jesus Christ and his work. Through the Spirit, he is the only one who has the power to do what we could never do for ourselves: To change, not just our behavior, but that which our heart truly loves.
