Elphyas Levi led a quiet life in a coastal town in northern France, leaving behind his stormy past immersed in books. All that changed with the arrival of Nicolas Flamel's special envoy, who turned out to be a girl named Joy Hartmann from North America who had recently lost her mother. In a letter, Nicholas asked to receive her as his apprentice, something he would never accept unless it was something unusual and his mentor asked him to do so, apart from Joy's family secret revealed in the scroll that left Elphyas speechless. As the days passed, the great wizard noticed that little Joy was hiding within herself an incredible secret that would not only dramatically change the magic world...
