About the work
Based on the feature length script, "Only the Best for Fifi," written by Andrew Bakalar in 1991-92, this series format for TV or digital is about a French show dog, Marie Therese, who is kidnapped and ends up, inadvertantly through a luggage system error in India. She is soon found by a young poor boy, Ayaan, who takes care of her with his mother´s blessing. But pressures mount when others in the poor neighborhood take interest in this exotic beautiful dog, looking to cash in through one means or another. Then a dog show handler to a rich man tries to pressure the boy into letting him take the dog and show it. Through it all, the French are looking for this lost dog, and the dog develops a special affection for the boy (Ayaan). The dog handler realizes the dog will not let him show her, she´ll only let Ayaan show her, but plans to show the dog in India go bust when the French discover finally where Maria Therese is, thanks to an Indian hustler in Ayaan´s neighborhood who traces the dog´s identity. All this leads to the Westminster Dog Show in New York, where the original owner of the dog agrees to fly Ayaan to New York to let him show Marie Therese, considered a French national treasure for having won more dog shows than any other French dog -- but she´s never won Westminister. WIth Ayaan, the poor boy from Mumbai as her handler however, she wins the coveted Best in Show trophy.
