Javier Martin Boix and Bass Culture Players - Skank-A-Bout - Respect Records 2018

About the work

These 12 inches of vinyl are the fruit of many year´s work in Spain´s musical underground. Years of learning, of mutual support and grassroots reggae.
Based in Discoinferno, Bass Culture Players was founded as a musical project whose main goal was to explore Roots Reggae production with local musicians and singers.
After numerous productions for some of the best artists in Spanish reggae, one of its musicians, Javier Martín Boix (aka Javibi) decided to take a step forward and create a record that would become his debut as a solo artist, the first fully instrumental LP by Bass Culture Players and Respect Record´s first 12 inch.
Javibi has shared his guitar playing with great musicians both as a recording artist and on stage. On this occasion, he decided to rally the troops (the Players), return to Discoinferno and put himself in Santi Mijarra´s hands in order to produce a wonderfully jazzy reggae LP.
Skank-A-Bout is an atypical and beautiful record. There are no lyrics and yet, there is a message. It is reggae but it is also jazz you can dance to and which will probably lead you to reflection. It is not a tribute record, it is more about revisiting the guitarists that influenced the way our icons play the instrument; the musicians that inspired the likes of Ernest Ranglin or Earl "Chinna" Smith.

This record has been cooked at low heat by musicians who love doing what they do best: a simple but flawless recipe.
