About the work
Don Chisciotte is an Italian storytelling song telling the deed of Don Quixote de la Mancia.. Both lyrics and music are mine. Lyrics follow, with a literal English translation:
Don Chisciotte della Mancia | Don Quixote de la Mancha
cavaliere di ventura | knight-errant
e dalla triste figura | and of the sorrowful countenance
Sempre errando per la Mancia | Always wandering the Mancha
in groppa al fido Ronzinante | on back of his faithful Ronzinante
ha per arma scudo e lancia | he's armed with shield and lance.
Con lo scudiero Sancio Panza | With his squire Sancio Panza
per amor di Dulcinea | for Dulcinea's love
del Toboso bella dea | the beautiful Toboso's goddness
Vuole riparare i torti | He want to fix all wrongdoings
perpetrati dai più forti | commited by the strongest
e sanare le ingiustizie | and correct injustices
e difendere i deboli | and defend the weaks
Ma le speranze sono fievoli | But hopes are feeble
e i giganti sono tanti | and giants are many
incantati ed arroganti | enchanted and arrogant
son potenti ed importanti | they are powerful and important
Va contro i mulini a vento | He goes against the windmills
fa sol danni ma è contento | makes only damages but he's happy
A lottar per gl'ideali | Fighting for ideals
perché tutti siano uguali | for everyone to be equal
non conviene per il fatto | isn't worth it because
che ti credon esser matto | they believe you are mad
Non ti danno fama e gloria | They do not give you fame and glory
(per concludere la storia) | (to round-off the story)
ma soltanto fior di botte | but only loads of blows
e ti lascian l'ossa rotte. | and leave you with broken bones.
