About the work
I got up from my bed last night, I think I went outside
I stood out in the cold, damp dark - and looked up at the sky
The clouds were thick, about to rain, the wind was razor cold
I tried to think what I’d done wrong, to work out why you’d gone
My eyes are filled with sand and tears,
My ears are filled with mud ….
My sight is dim, my senses dull;
My mind too weak for words
I can’t see where I’m going to,
I can’t see where I’ve been (2 3 4)
I can’t see anything I want,
I cannot see a thing! …
There was no note that I could see, nothing to tell me why.
The table was a mess of food, half-eaten chips and pies.
I stumbled on the kitchen floor, two bottles spun away,
My head was thick and numb with ache, and a thing I tried to say
My eyes are filled with sand and tears, My ears are filled with mud ….
My sight is dim, my senses dull;
My mind too weak for words
I can’t see where I’m going, I can’t see where I’ve been
I can’t see anything I want, I cannot see a thing!
...
There’s a smudge of red by the kitchen door – that a shoe has smeared away,
There’s a crack in the glass near the window sill that wasn’t there yesterday
I look around the empty room, but the memories don’t come
I want you back here, here with me, I don’t know what I’ve done
