A lo largo de la historia, se han producido innumerables apariciones de "muertos vivientes", "zombis", o "spectrum", por ello en el Siglo I, el Emperador Adriano, creó el Grupo VIIII siendo su jefe un legionario hispano llamado, Marcellus. La única misión del Grupo VIIII, es la de evitar que los spectrum, o "muertos vivientes", lleguen a controlar el mundo. En el transcurso de la II Guerra Mundial, durante la Batalla de Kursk en el Frente Oriental (4 de julio 1943 - 23 de agosto 1943), el Strafbataillon 79, esto es, “79º Batallón de castigo disciplinario de la Wehrmacht”, al mando del teniente Paul von Martin, se enfrentó a los spectrum cerca del poblado de Zukov, siguiendo las órdenes del Grupo VIIII. Semanas más tarde, Adolf Hitler, creó la 88ª SS Panzersgrenadier Division spectrum, con la clara intención de crear al soldado ario perfecto, esto es, un soldado que no se cansase nunca, y que no se muriese ya que ya estaba muerto, creando los spectrum SS, y para probar su efectividad en el campo de batalla, lograron llevarlos a Moscú con la intención de invadir Rusia. El Strafbataillon 79, y el Grupo VIIII, se enfrentan a la amenaza de los spectrum SS.
