The caves were just a name for the inevitable, the call to the deepest decadence of their position. There was no way out; no one had ever come out alive..."
While her case is being resolved, Reby is sent to the caves along with Jhareck, who is accused of his wife's disappearance. But Reby remembers nothing and no one except Elias, and in her desperation to know the reason for her condemnation and to recover her memory, Jhareck and she begin to formulate a plan to find their loved ones and escape. Later, they realize that the caverns are just a facade for their punishment. No one has come out of there alive in recent times. Reby starts to doubt Jhareck—what if he is guilty of his wife's disappearance? And what if she is responsible for Elias? After all, Jhareck's shadow was that of a wolf.
