Kassia y Sky, a pesar de ser amigas, afrontan su año en la Academia de formas muy distintas. La primera como paso para una vida donde la magia solo se encuentra en los libros de ficción. Prince Neren and Araminta are childhood friends living in the prosperous kingdom of Realis. Araminta will, in time, become a famous warrior, and Neren is to inherit the supernatural powers of the Great Wolf, a mythic creature no one living has seen with their own eyes. Neren and Araminta fall in love, but realize it at different times and opportunity keeps eluding them. Times of danger signal the return of the Great Wolf, and the secret forces that surround it burden the young prince.
