This book is a biography of the Spanish scientist, engineer and inventor Emilio Herrera Linares. It charts his military career in balloons, airships and early aeroplanes. It then examines his scientific speculations, technical studies and inventions, such as the first viable space suit, and tells of his attempts to set up a transatlantic airship airline. The book then goes on to portray his life of exile in Paris after the Spanish Civil War: his work in rocket and satellite design, his assistance given to the war refugees and his involvement in exile politics.
