Kalia Lansen, a young apothecary, faces a dire dilemma when her mentor falls ill with Deserthia—a magical disease that transforms its victims into monsters serving the God of the Deep. To keep his condition secret and save him, Kalia forges her application to the Protomedicate. However, her deception is discovered by Darnos, an enigmatic figure who offers her a place on an expedition into the dreaded Great Swamp in search of a cure.
In this world, three magical systems exist: Trastocation, Subjugation, and Sensory Magic. Kalia is a full synesthete, able to perceive the world in unique ways that may prove vital to the mission. During the expedition, she meets Evian, a noble whose family was destroyed by the forces of the God of the Deep. Evian leads the group with a bold plan: to follow three captured altered beings back to the god’s lair and defeat Him.
As the journey unfolds, Kalia and the company develop their abilities and discover that the Great Swamp is in fact a vast work of biological engineering. They confront Sardavian crusaders who demand the execution of the altered, but repel them in a bloody battle. While crossing a tunnel beneath the mountains, the group is sprayed with spores that trigger the monstrous transformation. Evian is taken by a cloudleaper but escapes with the help of the Aslorians—altered beings who do not serve Zordreath.
Upon returning to Aslora, the city is besieged by Zordreath’s forces. During the attack, Karden—Evian’s brother—is forced to kill his altered fiancée to save him. After repelling the assault and purging the spores from their systems, Kalia and Evian discover the location of Zordreath’s lair and plan a final attack. Kalia trains in Sensory Magic to unlock the Phase Hexagon, a complex magical puzzle, while Evian wrestles with a personal crisis and trains alongside the Aslorian warriors.
Their mission takes them to Zordreath’s fortress—an unusual pyramid in the heart of the swamp. There, they uncover the biological entanglement of all life: trees with flesh and eyes, animals and warriors infused with the DNA of various species. Using her synesthesia, Kalia unlocks the Phase Hexagon and discovers the hidden history of Zordreath—a magical spore that controls its followers through a binary system of electrical impulses.
In the final battle, Karden, now altered and under Zordreath’s control, fights against Kalia and Evian. Kalia crafts fungal armor and harnesses the spore’s power to face Zordreath’s avatar. She defeats it and seizes control of the spores enslaving Karden, restoring his humanity. But the group becomes surrounded by the god’s forces and is forced to descend into the prison-world’s depths, where terrifying creatures lie sealed away.
The Warped God is a dark epic fantasy novel that weaves mystery, betrayal, and science fiction into a world at war—where complex magical systems and ancient technology converge in a conflict of titanic scale.
