Técnica fisioterápica para reducir el Síndrome de la Red Axilar (Axillary Web Syndrome, AWS) o también conocido como trombosis linfática superficial, cordón fibrótico o signo de la cuerda de guitarra. Este síndrome se manifiesta clínicamente como un cordón que con frecuencia se presenta en la axila, aunque también puede aparecer a lo largo del miembro superior, pliegue de codo llegando incluso hasta el primer dedo como consecuencia de la intervención quirúrgica en pacientes diagnosticadas de un cáncer de mama, el tumor más común en mujeres de todo el mundo. El síndrome de red axilar produce dolor al hacer la abducción y flexión del hombro, con la respectiva merma de funcionalidad y limitación de la movilidad del miembro superior afecto. EL uso de esta técnica, que detalla las manipulaciones, movimientos y posiciones que se aplican a la paciente con AWS, aporta las siguientes ventajas: • Reducir el tiempo de evolución del síndrome de la red axilar (trombos linfáticos), en comparación con otras técnicas de fisioterapia previamente conocidas. • Mejorar la calidad de vida de las usuarias. • Reducir el dolor de las pacientes mastectomizadas. • Evitar el retraso de los tratamientos oncológicos de radioterapia, los cuales precisan de una abducción y flexión de hombro amplios. • Aumentar la movilidad del rango articular del miembro superior homolateral a la intervención quirúrgica.
