UJA-SHFD is a MATLAB application that allows you to calculate the Fractal Dimension based on Spherical Harmonics (SHFD) of cortical surfaces represented in the FreeSurfer and OBJ formats.
UJA-SHFD can calculate and analyze the SHFD of cortical surfaces through a graphical user interface (GUI) and also through commands from the MATLAB console. The application is specially designed to manage cortical surfaces obtained from the common pipeline of FreeSurfer software. UJA-SHFD estimates the value of the SHFD both at global level (a value for the entire cortical surface) and at local level (a map with the SHFD values for each vertex of the surface). To the best of our knowledge, there is no similar application freely available that allows the user to calculate, visualize and analyze the SHFD of cortical surfaces.
The main functions of UJA-SHFD are:
• Surface formats: FreeSurfer (pial y white) and OBJ WaveFront.
• Execution modes: Graphical user interface (GUI) and commands at MATLAB console.
• Surface visualization: The application allows he user to visualize and manipulate (zoom, rotation, etc.) the original Surface and local SHFD maps.
• Computing Fractal Dimension based on Spherical Harmonics (SHFD): UJA-SHFD computes the global SHFD and the local SHFD map of the cortical Surface. Global SHFD is stored in a text file and the local SHFD map in stored as a FreeSurfer overlay.
• Analysis of results: UJA-SHFD visualizes the global SHFD value and the local HSFD map for easy inspection.
• Configuration of SHFD computation: Parameters of the linear regression needed for computing SHFD can be configured visual and interactively in UJA-SHFD.
