An old woman hobbles across a road, placing tin cans carefully down in the middle of the road, squashed by vehicles. 1950's, young Anne Naysmith looks down at her fingers on the piano, her fussy , but proud Mother. Her future is bright as she plays at the Royal Academy of Music. She rehearses for her concert, she hears the music in her head - bright, lively and joyful. Anne meets Victor and they fall in love. Things go well for a while. Then unexpectedly, Victor decides to leave Anne. Heartbroken, Anne hears voices in her head. Forced to leave her home, her car parked on a street in Chiswick becomes refuge. That night a lonely dejected Anne is hit by a truck. 600 people attend her funeral. It seems Anne's life meant more to the local people than she realized.
