The well-known monopoly game was released in 1935. It represents a capitalist business model based on the free flow of capitals and financial risks. Since Monopoly is a symbol of the American dream, it is very attractive. It mixes several aspects, such as: luck, seize opportunities, success in business and merits. However, its fundamentals are questionable (it promotes the willful omission of certain rules, seeks to eliminate competitors, difficults the management of resources, success might depend on luck, generates inequalities that distort the distribution of income and encourages a short-term vision). Although, the purpose of the game is to provide guidelines on the pursuit of riches (investors) or the growth and survival (corporations), to make possible the development of financial and corporate strategies, similar to those used by investors and corporations. In this regard, there are five strategies that can be applied in the game, and in other areas (aggressive expansion, moderate expansion, slow expansion, no expansion and irregular expansion). Its correct application will mitigate most of the detrimental effects, and contribute to: follow the rules, develop a management style, fight adversities and the alleged luck factor, taking into account that long-term goals must be met (it is more a matter of survival than profitability). It is true that monopoly is a fascinating, educational and entertaining game. It shows the negative and positive aspects of human behavior. It is our duty to learn the lessons and apply the best strategies, either in personal or work-related fields.
