Isaac Asimov in his book, The End of Eternity, brilliantly conceived the most powerful secular government that could ever exist in the history of mankind, through the establishment of one of the most aggressive and radical forms of communism.
After scientists found out the secrets of time traveling, an independent executive organization, known as The Eternity, started using that technology, having the ability to change any event and deciding the fate of societies. In addition, this entity is controlled by corruption, power struggles, personal interests and the diffuse ethic of its leaders (which is more circumstantial than normative). That is why many of their behaviors are arbitrary and do not take into consideration or have any respect for human rights. Therefore, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights is replaced by the policies, rules and procedures of The Eternity.
The name of this book, The End of Eternity, refers to the victory of The Resistance (democracy, freedom, legality, capitalism and progress) over The Eternity (dictatorship, authoritarianism, illegitimacy, communism and stagnation).
Likewise, there is certain parallelism between The Eternity and communist regimes, regarding its origin, existence and end, considering these topics: a) How does communism arise? It isn´t established in a natural, or gradual way, in fact, it is assisted by external actors; b) How communism is supported? It depends mainly on the massive exploitation of some natural energy resources; c) How does the communist system deteriorate? The government faces serious problems regarding corruption, inefficiency, inefficacy, low productivity, lack of respect for justice or human rights and the economic model is not sustainable in the long term; finally, d) How does communism end? The referred process of attrition and actions of one or several movements or resistance groups, destroy this regime.
