A KARAOPERA OPEN DEBATE
subverting the limits of dramaturgy
Kill Don Giovanni is a project that combines Opera with dance floors and Karaoke, with the aim to continue a personal research about the Industrial Heritage in Norway, and develop a radical Punkymantic project, mixing electronic and classical music.
The idea is not only to make a replica of Karaoke in Spriten, with sculptures, models and objects made in cardboard but to present the result in the context of Karaoke venue. This strategy opens up a new perspective on performance in terms of public intervention: the power of the mic.
The symbolic dimension of karaoke, «the open mic», a kind of «speakers corner» with pre-recorded and live interviews, staging for different and hopefully unlikely audiences at the same place, yet combining and activating experiences at art venues such Spriten Kunsthall with Karaoke mecca Marianne´s.
