About the work
The United States faces a severe public health crisis. According to the CDC, over 42% of U.S. adults are living with obesity, and more than 38 million Americans have diabetes and obesity conditions that are closely linked and disproportionately impact in all communities. These chronic diseases pose an escalating burden on the U.S. healthcare system, economy, and workforce.
Despite numerous federal and local efforts, a significant gap persists in the availability of culturally competent, accessible, and actionable health communication. Traditional approaches often fail to reach at-risk groups in ways that resonate with their lived experiences, limiting the effectiveness of prevention and early intervention efforts.
