Synopsis:

Along the Mediterranean there are watchtowers and defence towers, some good preserved, some of them in ruins and others have disappeared. These towers were constructed during the 16th and 17th Cent. by the mission of vigilance and population protection of the coast before the assaults of the Berber pirates and Turkish corsairs. The whole coast could communicate tower by tower, and these with the rural towers and the castles, to be alert of the pirates presence. This video focus on the littoral of Castellon (Spain) and summarizes the above mentioned constructions.
The corsairs brothers Barbarroja were famous for their plunders along Mediterranean, punishing littoral of Castellon as well.There were many Christian captives, therefore the notary Josep Mas left money in inheritance (1617) to pay their rescues. The last piracy act took place on April 30, 1800.
