Abdul Saleh is a devout Servant of God who is scandalized by the dubious behavior of one of his neighbors, and incites and participates in her stoning. But instead of being satisfied with having been the instrument of God's justice, he is tormented for the rest of his life by that senseless wrongdoing. The reader is drawn by the inner drama of that just man who lived according to the law, and in the end has to decide if he paid for his sin ... if it was.
Along the book we come into his mind from different points of view, and the reader may feel sympathy for that murderer…, or not, but most probably will understand the way of thinking of illiterate people who know only one book, The Holy Book of All Believers.
