The World of Sara: Dates, Lies & Disasters is an original literary comedy series in a prose-screenplay hybrid format. The author combines novelistic narration, scene headings, formatted dialogue, and an opinionated narrator who observes characters with dry irony without explaining what the reader can already feel.
The series follows Sara, 31, a clinic receptionist navigating romantic failure and professional chaos — while her mother Lola runs a parallel story of affairs, family secrets, and a decades-long rivalry with her sister Agata.
The humor comes from the gap between who the characters believe themselves to be and what everyone around them can clearly see. Sara — Protagonist. Outspoken, impulsive, unlucky in romance.
Lola — Sara's mother. Glamorous, theatrical, conducting an affair with Alfredo while provoking Father Roberto. Her rivalry with Agata drives a parallel narrative of generational betrayal.
Ema — Sara's closest friend. Her arc involves her therapist, a stranger named John, and a pregnancy revealed three months later. Maxi — Direct, confident, irreverent.
Cintia — Observes, listens, judges quietly. Alfredo — Lola's lover. Present at key moments in other characters' lives without connecting the threads. Father Roberto — Parish priest. Losing ground to Lola's confessional provocations.
Agata — Lola's sister. Elegant, controlled, equally dangerous. Married Lola's ex-husband Ramón.
Ramón — Conducting an affair with Margarita, his household domestic.
Margarita — Present at every explosion, silent at every crucial moment.
Susan — Mutual friend of Lola and Agata. Loyalty unresolved.
Dr. Ocampo — Object of Sara's unrequited fantasy. Marries Lara at the end of Book 2.
Lara — Not a villain. Simply the person who arrived at the right moment.
Marco — Sara's disastrous date. Ends the evening on a stretcher.
Karen — Sara's supervisor. Constitutionally incapable of softening a sentence.
Books 1 and 2 complete. Book 3 in development. All characters and events are fictional.
