About the title
Truso was an early medieval trading center and Viking settlement located near Lake Drużno, close to present-day Elbląg in Poland. Its history begins in the late 8th or 9th century, when it served as a hub for the exchange of goods such as amber, attracting merchants from various regions of the world. By the 10th century, Truso had begun to decline, and soon after, it disappeared entirely, coinciding with the rise of Gdańsk, founded in the 10th century at the mouth of the Vistula River into the Baltic Sea. The earliest reference to Gdańsk, under the name Gyddanyzc, appears in the Life of Saint Adalbert by Johannes Canaparius. Gdańsk quickly grew into a strategic trading hub, surpassing Truso in regional significance. Today, both Truso and Gdańsk symbolize the rich history of trade and culture in Pomerania.
